What This Means For Your Family
EVERY SHOWER. EVERY GLASS. EVERY MEAL.
Sacramento draws water from the American River and Sacramento River. To kill bacteria, chlorine is added at the treatment plant. That chlorine reacts with organic matter in the river water and creates trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids. These are not contaminants the river puts in. They are byproducts of the treatment process itself.
The arsenic comes from natural mineral deposits and agricultural runoff. The PFAS forever chemicals have accumulated in the watershed over decades from industrial and military sources. PFAS chemicals do not break down. They accumulate in your body over time with no natural elimination.
Every shower. Every glass of water. Every pot of pasta. Your family is absorbing these contaminants. The damage is cumulative. The risk is long-term. This is why we exist.
💧
Reverse Osmosis
Removes up to 99% of contaminants. All 15 EWG-flagged contaminants in Sacramento water. Pure great-tasting water from your kitchen tap.

Why Folsom Homeowners Install Filtration
THE WATER LOOKS CLEAN. IT IS NOT.
Folsom Lake is a treated surface water source. Surface water always contains organic matter. When the treatment plant adds chlorine to kill bacteria, that chlorine reacts with the organic matter and creates trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids. These are byproducts of the treatment process that keeps the water from making you sick the same day.
The chromium-6 is different. That comes from natural mineral deposits and industrial activity in the watershed. Federal limits do not exist for chromium-6 specifically. The state of California set a public health goal of 0.02 ppb. Folsom’s water consistently runs above that goal.
Every shower. Every glass of water. Every pot of pasta. Your family is absorbing these contaminants through ingestion and through skin contact in the shower.

Why Roseville Needs Both Filtration And Softening
PROTECT YOUR FAMILY. PROTECT YOUR HOME.
Roseville draws its water from Folsom Lake. To kill bacteria, chlorine is added. That chlorine reacts with organic matter in the lake water and creates cancer-linked disinfection byproducts. Roseville’s levels are among the highest in the Sacramento metro.
Haloacetic acids are 362x above EWG’s health guideline. Trihalomethanes are 289x. These are not trace numbers. Every shower, every glass of water, every pot of pasta is loaded with cancer-linked chemicals that the federal government has not updated limits on in two decades.
Filtration removes the cancer-linked contaminants. Softening protects your home. Most Roseville families install both.

ROCKLIN PCWA FOOTHILL WATER SYSTEM ●DISINFECTION BYPRODUCTS ABOVE GUIDELINES ●LEGAL DOES NOT EQUAL SAFE — EWG ●FREE IN-HOME WATER TEST ●ROCKLIN PCWA FOOTHILL WATER SYSTEM ●DISINFECTION BYPRODUCTS ABOVE GUIDELINES ●
What Gets Through In Rocklin
CLEANER SOURCE. NOT CLEAN ENOUGH.
Rocklin is served by Placer County Water Agency’s Foothill system. PCWA Foothill draws from the Yuba and Bear River watersheds, Lake Spaulding, and the American River. The water is genuinely cleaner than most California systems. That is the truth.
Here is the other truth. EWG independent testing still flags disinfection byproducts in PCWA Foothill water. Every surface-water system that adds chlorine creates them. Rocklin is no exception.
Total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs)
Cancer-linked disinfection byproducts formed when chlorine reacts with organic matter in surface water.
Haloacetic Acids (HAA5)
Cancer-linked disinfection byproducts. Present in treated surface water systems.
Chromium-6
Industrial and naturally occurring carcinogen. Detected in PCWA Foothill water.
Chlorine and Chloramine Residuals
Added at the treatment plant. Causes taste and odor. Reacts with organic matter in the distribution system.
Trace Metals From Aging Plumbing
Copper, lead potential in older Rocklin homes. PCWA is currently replacing the $24M Midas Avenue pipeline.
The water hitting your meter is reasonably clean. The water hitting your faucet is not the same water.
“Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.”
— Environmental Working Group
Why Rocklin Homeowners Install Filtration
THE PIPES TELL A DIFFERENT STORY
The PCWA water hitting your meter is reasonably clean. The water hitting your faucet is not the same water. Between the treatment plant and your kitchen sink, water travels through aging municipal mains (PCWA is currently replacing the $24 million Midas Avenue pipeline), your home’s service line, decades-old indoor plumbing in many Rocklin neighborhoods, and your water heater.
By the time it reaches your glass, the water carries chlorine residuals, disinfection byproducts that formed in the distribution system, and any contaminants picked up from the pipes. A whole-home filter catches all of it.
🏠
Three-Tank Whole Home
The right call for most Rocklin homes. Sediment, carbon, and multimedia filtration. Every tap protected from the moment water enters your house.
💧
Reverse Osmosis
For drinking and cooking water cleaner than bottled. Removes disinfection byproducts that even PCWA’s good source water carries.

Water Softener
PCWA Foothill water is relatively soft. A softener still adds value in older Rocklin homes. We test before recommending.

Rocklin FAQs
COMMON QUESTIONS
Is Rocklin tap water safe to drink? ▾
It meets every federal and state legal standard. PCWA Foothill is one of the cleaner systems in California. EWG still flags disinfection byproducts above health guidelines.
Where does Rocklin water come from? ▾
Placer County Water Agency's Foothill system, drawing from Yuba and Bear River watersheds, Lake Spaulding, and the American River.
Is Rocklin water hard? ▾
PCWA Foothill water is among the softest in the Sacramento metro. Most Rocklin homes do not require a softener. We test before recommending.
What about old pipes in older Rocklin homes? ▾
This is a real issue. PCWA is replacing aging mains across Rocklin. Inside your home, decades-old plumbing can add lead, copper, and corrosion to clean source water. A whole-home filter solves this.

Why Elk Grove Groundwater Is Different
GROUNDWATER BRINGS DIFFERENT RISKS
Elk Grove draws from groundwater wells rather than surface water like Sacramento or Roseville. Groundwater eliminates some surface water problems but introduces others. Arsenic, chromium-6, nitrate, and radioactive minerals all leach naturally from rock and soil into groundwater over time. Agricultural activity in the Sacramento Valley has added nitrate contamination to groundwater across the region.
Elk Grove also sits downstream from Sacramento Army Depot, a source of documented PFAS groundwater contamination. PFAS testing in Elk Grove’s water supply may not yet reflect the full extent of contamination as testing requirements continue to expand.

Chlorine Residuals
Added at the treatment plant. Reacts with organic matter in the distribution system to continuously create disinfection byproducts between the plant and your tap.

The Distance From Treatment Plant To Your Tap
CLEAN AT THE PLANT. NOT AT YOUR FAUCET.
The PCWA water leaving the treatment plant is relatively clean. By the time it reaches your kitchen, it has traveled through aging municipal mains, your home’s service line, and the plumbing inside your walls. Chlorine residuals in the water continue reacting with organic material throughout the distribution system, creating additional disinfection byproducts after treatment.
If your home was built before 2000, there is also the potential for lead and copper from aging indoor plumbing. PCWA is currently replacing aging infrastructure across Placer County. A whole-home filter is the most reliable protection against whatever the pipes add between the plant and your glass.

EWG Official Report — Lincoln, CA
WHAT’S ACTUALLY IN LINCOLN WATER
City of Lincoln draws from groundwater wells and a mix of surface water sources in Placer County. EWG independent testing through the California State Water Resources Control Board found contaminants including a banned agricultural pesticide that persists in Lincoln’s groundwater more than four decades after it was prohibited.
DBCP (1,2-Dibromo-3-chloropropane)
A pesticide banned in 1979 due to its link to cancer and male sterility. Still detectable in Lincoln’s groundwater today. A testament to how long dangerous chemicals persist underground once introduced.
Arsenic
Potent carcinogen detected in Lincoln water above EWG health guidelines. Leaches from natural mineral deposits in Placer County geology. Linked to bladder, lung, and skin cancer.
Chromium-6 (Hexavalent Chromium)
The Erin Brockovich chemical. Detected in Lincoln water. Industrial and naturally occurring carcinogen. No federal limit exists despite widespread detection.

Cancer-linked disinfection byproducts. Detected above EWG health guidelines in City of Lincoln water from the water treatment process.
Bromodichloromethane
A trihalomethane disinfection byproduct. Detected above EWG health guidelines. Cancer risk and harm to fetal growth and development.
Nitrate
Detected in Lincoln groundwater from agricultural activity in the surrounding Sacramento Valley. Cancer risk. Especially dangerous during pregnancy.
“Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.”
— Environmental Working Group
Why Lincoln’s Water Requires Attention
BANNED IN 1979. STILL IN YOUR WATER.
DBCP was banned in California and federally in 1979 after it was found to cause cancer and sterilize farmworkers. But DBCP is a remarkably stable compound. Once it seeps into groundwater it stays there for decades. Lincoln sits in a region with a long agricultural history, and traces of this banned pesticide persist in the groundwater beneath the community today.
Arsenic and chromium-6 add additional cancer risk from the natural geology of Placer County. The disinfection byproducts are created during treatment. Together they create a water quality picture that demands a serious whole-home filtration response.

EWG Official Report — Davis, CA
WHAT’S ACTUALLY IN DAVIS WATER
City of Davis water is sourced from Sacramento River surface water and groundwater wells in Yolo County. Davis uses an advanced ozone treatment process, which is more effective than standard chlorination at killing pathogens. But ozone treatment comes with a tradeoff. When ozone reacts with naturally occurring bromide in the source water, it creates bromate, a known carcinogen.
EWG independent testing found arsenic, chromium-6, bromate, and chlorate all above EWG health guidelines in Davis tap water.
Bromate
A carcinogenic disinfection byproduct formed specifically when ozone treatment reacts with naturally occurring bromide in source water. Davis’s advanced ozone treatment creates this contaminant as a side effect. Detected above EWG health guidelines.
Arsenic
Potent carcinogen detected above EWG health guidelines in Davis water. From natural deposits and agricultural legacy contamination in the Sacramento Valley. Linked to bladder, lung, and skin cancer.
Chromium-6 (Hexavalent Chromium)
The Erin Brockovich chemical. Detected in Davis water above EWG health guidelines. Industrial and naturally occurring carcinogen. No federal limit despite widespread presence.
Chlorate
Forms as a disinfection byproduct. Detected above EWG health guidelines. Chlorate impairs thyroid function, making exposure most harmful during pregnancy and childhood.
“Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.”
— Environmental Working Group
The Bromate Problem
ADVANCED TREATMENT. UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES.
Davis uses ozone treatment, which is genuinely more effective than chlorine at killing pathogens. The City made an active choice to invest in better treatment technology. But ozone is not without consequences. When ozone reacts with the natural bromide in Sacramento Valley source water, it produces bromate, a compound that damages DNA and causes cancer in laboratory animals.
The result is a water supply that is cleaner in some ways and introduces a different cancer risk in others. Arsenic and chromium-6 add to the cumulative risk profile. A whole-home reverse osmosis system removes all of these contaminants in one step.
This is why we exist. Not to sell fear. To give every Davis family a real solution.
